Advanced Level Qualifications
A-Levels in Antwerp - The Qualification That Gets You Into the World's Best Universities.

A-Levels are the most academically rigorous qualification available to students aged 16 to 18 - and they are the primary pathway into leading universities across the United Kingdom, Europe, and the rest of the world. At Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and every Russell Group university, A-Level results are the standard by which applicants are judged. At Harvard, Yale, MIT, and universities across the United States, strong A-Level grades carry significant weight.
At Owl Academy International School, our A-Level programme gives students in Grades 11 and 12 the specialist teaching, structured examination preparation, and individual academic support they need to achieve the grades that matter. Students choose three or four subjects from a range of more than 15 options, building the focused academic profile that their target university and degree course requires.
This is not a broad, general curriculum. A-Levels are designed for students who know where they are going - and who are ready to do the serious academic work it takes to get there.

15+ A-Level Subjects - Build the Academic Profile Your University Requires.

A-Level subject selection is one of the most consequential academic decisions a student will make. The right combination signals subject-specific preparation for the degree course ahead – and the wrong combination can close doors before a student has had the chance to open them. At Owl Academy, every student receives dedicated guidance to ensure their subject choices are deliberately aligned with their university pathway and long-term career direction.

Advanced Level subjects

Biology, Business, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics,English Literature, Further Pure Maths, Geography, History, Mathematics, Mechanics, Modern Foreign Languages, Physics, Psychology, Sociology.

Most students study three A-Level subjects – the combination covered by the standard annual tuition fee. Students with strong academic ability and clear university targets may choose to add a fourth subject. Our academic advisers work with every student and their family to identify the three or four subjects that give the strongest, most relevant foundation for their chosen degree. Subject choices are confirmed during the pre-enrolment consultation and can be reviewed at the start of each academic year.

WHY STUDENTS AND PARENTS CHOOSE OWL ACADEMY FOR A-LEVELS

Owl Academy's A-Level programme is shaped by a single aim: to get each student into the university they are genuinely capable of attending. That requires subject depth, examination precision, and the kind of personal academic attention that most schools - including large international ones - find difficult to deliver consistently.

Deep Specialisation in Three or Four Subjects

Unlike the broad, multi-subject approach of earlier years, A-Levels are built for depth. Students at Owl Academy study three or four subjects - and they study them seriously. Every lesson, every assessment, and every piece of feedback is designed to build the precise, subject-specific knowledge that A-Level examinations test and that university admissions tutors look for. This depth is what separates students who apply to top universities from those who are admitted.

Subject Combinations Tailored to University Entry Requirements

Different degree courses require different subject combinations. A student aiming to read Medicine needs Biology and Chemistry. A future engineer needs Mathematics and Physics. An aspiring economist needs Mathematics and ideally Economics or Business Studies. At Owl Academy, subject selection is never generic - it is targeted. Our academic advisers ensure that every student's A-Level combination gives them the strongest possible foundation for the specific degree and university they are working towards.

Examination-Focused Assessment That Prepares Students to Perform

A-Level assessment is primarily through final written examinations - and performing well under examination conditions is a skill that must be practised, not assumed. At Owl Academy, structured past paper practice, timed examination conditions, and detailed mark scheme feedback are built into the programme from the start of Grade 11. Students arrive at the May/June examination session knowing exactly what is expected of them, having already demonstrated that they can deliver it.

University Preparation Integrated Into Every Stage of the Programme

Getting strong A-Level grades is necessary - but it is not sufficient on its own for admission to highly competitive universities. At Owl Academy, university preparation is woven into the A-Level experience from Grade 11 onwards. Students receive guidance on personal statement writing, UCAS application processes, admissions test preparation where required, and interview skills for institutions that use them. By the time students submit their applications, they are genuinely ready - not simply hopeful.

Academic Rigour That Universities Actually Recognise

A-Levels examined through Pearson Edexcel and Oxford/ AQA are among the most internationally respected pre-university qualifications available. Universities in the United Kingdom accept A-Levels as the primary route to undergraduate entry. US universities - including the Ivy League - recognise strong A-Level performance as evidence of advanced academic ability, and students with high grades may be eligible for advanced standing or course credit. European, Australian, and Asian institutions hold A-Levels in equally high regard.

International Recognition That Opens Doors Worldwide

Pearson Edexcel and Oxford /AQA A-Level qualifications are recognised by universities and professional bodies in more than 100 countries. For international students and families in Antwerp, this global portability means that A-Level results earned at Owl Academy will be understood and respected wherever a student's ambitions take them - whether to a UK university, a US college, a European institution, or elsewhere. In some cases, strong A-Level grades may also qualify students for scholarship consideration or advanced placement within their chosen degree programme.

Frequently Asked Questions - A-Levels at Owl Academy

Everything students and parents need to know about studying A-Levels at Owl Academy - answered.

What are A-Levels and why do they matter for university entry?
A-Levels – Advanced Level qualifications – are a two-year academic programme studied at ages 16 to 18, examined through Pearson/ Edexcel and Oxford /AQA. They are the primary qualification used for university entry in the United Kingdom and are widely recognised by leading universities across the United States, Europe, Australia, and elsewhere. A-Levels require students to specialise deeply in three or four subjects, producing the kind of subject-specific academic preparation that top universities value most. Strong A-Level results are among the most reliable indicators of readiness for undergraduate study.
What A-Level subjects does Owl Academy offer?
Owl Academy offers more than 15 A-Level subjects through Pearson/ Edexcel and Oxford/ AQA, including Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English Literature, Further Pure Mathematics, Geography, History, Mathematics, Mechanics, Modern Foreign Languages, Physics, Psychology, and Sociology. Students typically study three subjects, with a fourth available for those with the academic capacity and a clear reason to take it. Subject availability is confirmed during the pre-enrolment consultation.
How many A-Level subjects should my child study?
Most students study three A-Level subjects – this is the standard for competitive university applications in the UK and is the number covered by Owl Academy’s annual tuition fee. Three well-chosen, strongly-graded A-Levels carry significantly more weight in university admissions than four average ones. A fourth subject is sometimes appropriate for students targeting the most competitive institutions or courses with specific additional requirements, but only when the student has the academic capacity to maintain quality across all subjects. Our academic advisers discuss this with every student individually
Which universities accept A-Levels from Owl Academy?
A-Levels examined through Pearson/ Edexcel and Oxford /AQA are accepted by universities worldwide. In the United Kingdom, every university – including Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, and all Russell Group institutions – uses A-Level results as the primary admissions criterion. In the United States, Ivy League and other competitive universities recognise A-Levels and may grant advanced standing for high-scoring students. European, Australian, Canadian, and Asian universities all accept A-Level qualifications. Owl Academy students have applied successfully to universities across multiple countries.
What are the entry requirements for the A-Level programme at Owl Academy?
Entry to Owl Academy’s A-Level programme is based on the student’s age (typically 16–18, entering Grade 11), their academic background, and a personalised academic consultation with our admissions team. Students joining from a British curriculum school will typically have completed their IGCSE examinations. Students from other curriculum backgrounds are assessed individually to determine their readiness and to identify the most appropriate subject combination. English language proficiency is required, as all A-Level teaching is conducted in English.
How are A-Level students prepared for their final examinations?
Examination preparation at Owl Academy begins from the first week of Grade 11 – not in a rushed final push before papers are sat. Structured timed practice under examination conditions, systematic past paper work, and regular mark scheme feedback are built into the teaching programme throughout the two years. Students develop the examination technique, subject fluency, and time management skills that A-Level papers require. By the time the May/June examination session arrives, every Owl Academy A-Level student knows exactly what is expected and has practised delivering it.
Does Owl Academy help students with their university applications?
Yes. University application support is a core part of what Owl Academy offers A-Level students – not an optional extra. Students receive structured guidance on UCAS personal statement writing, subject and university selection, admissions test preparation for institutions that require it, and interview preparation for competitive programmes. For students applying to universities outside the UK, our advisers are familiar with application requirements in the United States, Europe, and other major destinations. The goal is for every student to submit the strongest possible application – with full support behind them.
When are A-Level examinations held?
Pearson/ Edexcel and Oxford /AQA A-Level examinations are held twice a year. The main session is May/June, when the majority of students sit their final papers after completing the two-year programme. A second session runs in October/November, used primarily for students who wish to resit one or more papers after receiving their August results. For students applying to UK universities through UCAS, the May/June results arrive in August – timed specifically to allow students to confirm their university places before the start of the academic year.
Can a student join the A-Level programme in Grade 12 - the second year?
Entry directly into Grade 12 (the second year of A-Levels) is assessed on an individual basis. It requires strong prior academic preparation in the relevant subjects – typically prior completion of the equivalent of an AS Level or first-year A-Level programme. Our admissions team will assess the student’s existing knowledge and determine whether direct Grade 12 entry is appropriate, or whether additional support would be needed to bridge any gaps. We recommend contacting us as early as possible to discuss your child’s specific situation.
What is the annual tuition fee for A-Levels at Owl Academy?
The annual tuition fee for Owl Academy’s A-Level programme (Grades 11 to 12) is €18,500 per year. This covers three A-Level subjects, all timetabled lessons with specialist teachers, structured examination preparation, academic counselling, and university application support.
