Each subject is taught by a specialist teacher, examined through a combination of coursework and final examination, and assessed against the same global standards used by exam bodies in IGCSE schools in over 160 countries.

WHY STUDENTS AND PARENTS CHOOSE OWL ACADEMY FOR IGCSE

Owl Academy's IGCSE programme is built around one belief: that every student deserves to reach their academic potential - and that getting there requires the right teaching, the right environment, and the right support. These are the principles that shape every student's experience at Owl Academy.

Globally Recognised by Universities and Employers

Pearson/Edexcel and Oxford/AQA IGCSE qualifications are accepted by universities, colleges, and employers across more than 160 countries. From leading UK universities to Ivy League institutions in the United States, from European faculties to universities across Australia, Asia, and the Middle East - strong IGCSE results are understood and respected everywhere. For international families, this global portability is one of the most valuable points that an IGCSE qualification offers.

A Curriculum Designed Around the Individual Student

No two students at Owl Academy follow an identical academic path. Subject combinations, learning pace, and academic support are all adjusted to reflect each student's needs, goals, and starting point. For students who are new to the British curriculum, or who are joining mid-programme, our academic team ensures a smooth transition. For students targeting the very highest grades, our teachers stretch and challenge them accordingly. Every academic decision at Owl Academy starts with one question: what does this particular student need?

Analytical Thinking Built Into Every Subject

The study at IGCSE’s at Owl Academy goes beyond content knowledge. Every subject is taught to develop the analytical and evaluative skills that both universities and employers consistently identify as the most valuable a young person can possess. Students learn to construct arguments, assess evidence, approach problems from multiple perspectives, and communicate their thinking clearly under examination conditions - skills that transfer directly into A Level study and beyond.

Practical, Inquiry-Led Learning Across All Subjects

The Pearson/Edexcel and AQA/Oxford IGCSE is not a purely theory-based qualification. At Owl Academy, students engage in hands-on experiments, project-based assignments, fieldwork tasks, and scenario-led exercises that embed learning in real-world contexts. This approach develops the depth of understanding that is assessed in IGCSE examinations - and builds the academic habits that distinguish students who truly know their subject from those who have simply memorised it.

A Subject Choice of 17+ - Tailored to Each Student

With more than 17 subjects available, Owl Academy's IGCSE students are not pushed into a pre-set combination. Each student, working with their academic adviser, selects the subjects that match their strengths and align with the A Level pathway and university course they are working towards. This subject-level personalisation ensures that students arrive at their A Level years with precisely the IGCSE grounding their chosen direction requires.

Assessment That Prepares Students - Not Just Tests Them

Assessment at Owl Academy's IGCSE level takes multiple forms: coursework, practical assessments, presentations, and formal examinations. This variety gives students ongoing, meaningful feedback on their progress throughout the two-year programme - not only a single set of results at the end. Regular assessment also allows teachers to identify and address gaps early, ensuring students arrive at their final examination sessions genuinely prepared rather than simply hoping for the best.

Frequently Asked Questions - IGCSE at Owl Academy

Everything students and parents need to know about studying IGCSE at Owl Academy - answered.

What is the IGCSE and why does it matter?
The IGCSE – International General Certificate of Secondary Education – is a two-year academic qualification for students aged 14 to 16, administered by Pearson/Edexcel and AQA/Oxford international examinations. It is one of the most internationally recognised secondary qualifications in the world, accepted by universities and institutions in over 160 countries. Strong IGCSE results provide the academic foundation for A- Level study and are a key indicator of readiness for competitive university admissions. At Owl Academy, students study Pearson/Edexcel and AQA/Oxford IGCSE subjects taught by specialist teachers in Antwerp, Belgium.
How many IGCSE subjects does Owl Academy offer?
Owl Academy offers more than 17 IGCSE subjects, including Art and Design, Biology, Business Studies, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, English Language, English Literature, French, Further Pure Mathematics, Geography, German, History, Mathematics, Physics, Psychology, Sociology, and Spanish. The standard annual programme includes five subjects. Students who wish to study additional IGCSE subjects may do so – please speak to our admissions team for details and any associated fees.
How many IGCSE subjects should my child take?
Most students at Owl Academy study five IGCSE subjects – the number included in the standard annual fee. This is broadly consistent with the approach taken by leading international schools globally. The right number for each student depends on their academic ability, workload management, and post-IGCSE plans. Our academic advisers discuss this with every student and family during the pre-enrolment consultation, helping to identify the combination that gives the strongest foundation for the A Level and university pathway ahead.
How often are IGCSE exams held at Owl Academy?
Pearson/Edexcel and AQA/Oxford IGCSE examinations are held up to three times a year. The main session is May/June, when the majority of students sit their papers. A second session runs in October/November, primarily used for resits or by students whose academic calendar differs from the standard UK pattern. A third session in February/March is available for a limited selection of subjects. Owl Academy students benefit from this flexibility – allowing exam entry to be planned around each student’s readiness rather than a fixed institutional calendar.
Are there entry requirements to join the IGCSE programme at Owl Academy?
Yes. Entry to Owl Academy’s IGCSE programme is based on three factors: the student’s age (typically 14–16, entering Grade 9 or 10), their academic background and previous schooling, and an academic consultation with our admissions team. The consultation allows us to assess the student’s current level, recommend appropriate subject choices, and ensure they are placed in the grade and combination that gives them the best chance of success. Students joining from non-British curriculum schools are fully supported through the transition.
